friday randomness

12 Nov
  • I made Jen’s whoopie pies the other night. And I’m happy to report that they are good. I made Pat take half of them to work the next day. Oh, and the ones I made are definitely about the size of Martha’s head. I’ve been cutting them in half and just eating half. But then later I find myself wandering back to the kitchen and inhaling the other half.
  • To make the whoopie pies, I roasted my first ever pie pumpkin. The roasted pumpkin was delish. WHO KNEW. Even fed some of the puree to the baby the next day and he loved it.  Conversely, he gagged on some of the canned pumpkin I tried giving him today. He knows what’s good, I tell you.
  • Speaking of pumpkin, today a friend and I brought our three ring circus (two 3 year olds and two infants) to Birchwood Cafe for lunch. I love their kids’ meals that they have going on. Your little darling can choose from cheese pizza, grilled cheese, PB&J, or a hotdog. The meals come with organic applesauce, milk or juice, and an Izzy’s ice cream sundae! My kid today chose the pumpkin ice cream and let me have a few bites and OMG it was so good.
  • I really really really wanted to order a dish of the pumpkin Izzy’s for myself, but I didn’t. Because I knew I had whoopie pies at home.
  • Speaking of the Birchwood– and calling all entrepreneurs!! I have a business idea worth millions. My idea is to have a restaurant such as the Birchwood, in a neighborhood such as Longfellow, that has a playland. A playland!! In a restaurant with homemade, healthy, tasty food! I KNOW! Why has no one in Minneapolis thought of this before? I would love to take my rambunctious kid to a McDonald’s playland during the winter to run off some steam, but I do not want to eat lunch at McDonald’s. Therein lies the dilemma.
  • That’s all I got. Time for a whoopie pie.

I’m a big believer in eating half and then going back for the other half. I don’t think it adds up to a whole one…at least that’s what I tell myself. :)
